The Arbiter leaned over the railing and watched the burning remains of the Oracle plummet into the depths of the control room.

“Stay with me!” The Masterchief pleaded to his dying comrade.

Sargeant Avery Johnson coughed; his blood spattered the Spartans visor.
Raising his hand he pushed Cortana’s chip into the Chief’s gloved hand.
“Don’t you-*cough*-Don’t you ever let her go!” he demanded, his breathing started to slow.

The Masterchief raised his free hand to his visor, forming the symbol for a smile that he and his Spartans had made after they received their MJOLNIR battle armor.

Johnson smiled in return before whispering, “Send me out… with a bang” his head rolled to the side as he gave into the welcoming darkness.

The Arbiter took a step forward, grief urged him to mourn for this human’s death, but his hatred of the human race held him back.  He was torn between alliance and age-old hate forged into him by the Prophet’s and their lies.

The Mastercheif slowly approached Halo’s control panel and waited as Cortana prepared Halo’s main weapon.

“I’m so sorry…” Cortana whispered, knowing how much it hurt the Masterchief to watch Johnson die.  The man had lost everything, his Spartans, Doctor Halsey, Chief Mendez, Captain Keyes and his daughter Miranda Keyes and last but certainly not least of all, Johnson.

The Masterchief only nodded his head slightly, before Cortana said, “It’s done…”
Turning around the Spartan faced the Arbiter, pushing Cortana’s flash disk into the open port in the back of his helmet.

An explosion rocked the glass floor beneath them, and support beams plummeted from their places at the top of the Control room.

Glass shattered and Metal grinded on Metal.  Then a Pulse beam flared behind the Masterchief, knocking out his shields with an EMP burst.

The Arbiter turned and sprinted for the hallway, his shields had also been depleted by the EMP.

So it begins, The Lone Spartan thought as he followed the Arbiter out to the Halls, readying his Assault Rifle for the waiting Flood.

The beginning of the end… Cortana added before the doors slid open revealing the flood-infested hallway…
A quick, less than a page, oneshot I wrote about the scene where Sargeant Avery Johnson dies in Halo 3. Quite a sad scene. I have to admit that I cried during it.
